So this week the developer next door, you know the one who had the Rock Thrower hit our front window and air conditioner? They came back and dug up the rocks they had thrown down and decided it was OK to rip out the side of our foundation membrane without asking us first. When queried about how they were allowed to do it they simply said “don’t worry we will fix it later this fall.” This really is the Wild West.
An HVAC guy checked our AC unit. We are having issues with debris, notably when they used a Rock Thrower. They suggested we cover the unit as there could be more debris in the future.
You can see here and here that our fence was in top shape back in fall/winter 2013. But throughout the construction it’s been getting worse and worse. We really liked the fence as it kept our garden sheltered. You can also notice in this picture that the right side of the house appears to be sinking. Damage to other parts of the house appear to be supporting this theory as well. Will this ever get fixed? Stay tuned.
So they filled the side area of the construction site. It was done Rambo-style with some contraption slinging thousands of small rocks directly adjacent to our house. Some of the rocks hit our front window and some fell into our air conditioning unit. Not pleased.
I think they realized that damage to our house was occurring because they let themselves in to our front yard and put up boards in an attempt to block the rocks. These are the things you deal with living next to a construction site!
That’s my driveway he’s blocking! Where’s the ticket guy when you need him…
They came and installed something called a crack monitor. It’s basically a tool that is supposed to allow them to see if the cracks are increasing and the house is still moving. We will have a visit once a week from now on to monitor this.
We had a visit recently from the developer and their structural and geotechnical engineers. They reviewed the entire home. They assured us the home was safe. The developer’s project manager came by afterwards and told us that they would take care of all the fixes to make it right. We are relieved they have said they would do so.
