So this week the developer next door, you know the one who had the Rock Thrower hit our front window and air conditioner? They came back and dug up the rocks they had thrown down and decided it was OK to rip out the side of our foundation membrane without asking us first. When queried about how they were allowed to do it they simply said “don’t worry we will fix it later this fall.” This really is the Wild West.
Multiple homes in Ottawa are left with severe damage after experiencing strong vibrations and various construction processes from an adjacent condo development site. The construction work included excavation, sheet piling, dewatering, drilling underneath the properties and shoring and took place almost daily for several months. The homes’ conditions continue to deteriorate as construction progresses. Residents says they are worried. Work on the condo development is set to continue for another year.
This video was shot by homeowners living next to a condo development site in Lowertown, Ottawa. This is a must-watch if a development is planned near you.
They came and installed something called a crack monitor. It’s basically a tool that is supposed to allow them to see if the cracks are increasing and the house is still moving. We will have a visit once a week from now on to monitor this.
We had a visit recently from the developer and their structural and geotechnical engineers. They reviewed the entire home. They assured us the home was safe. The developer’s project manager came by afterwards and told us that they would take care of all the fixes to make it right. We are relieved they have said they would do so.
So they are digging right next door to us. And it feels like a massive shovel smacking the side of our wall. Really unnerving.
Ladies and gentlemen step right out… We haven’t been able to use our exit door in the garden for the past few months and won’t be able to until the sides are filled in. Another lifestyle change that construction brings!
